We went to PAX West eager to share our progress and left with a tremendously helpful list of bugs, improvements, and comments that we took very seriously as development continued.
As for original Fate developer Travis Baldree, he’s seemingly moved on from the games industry after Rebel Galaxy Outlaw failed to sell. Now he seems to be enjoying a cozy career writing about (and narrating) high fantasy heroes running coffee shops and book stores.

The opportunity to revisit Fate started around 2019 when gamigo acquired WildTangent, who originally released and owned the Fate series. The COVID pandemic in 2020 caused some delay in deciding how to best revisit the series, but it was important to us that we approach the project thoughtfully and carefully.
Eagle-eyed fans in the Steam user reviews have highlighted some other tweaks from the original, such as more item spaces per character and multiple loadouts, but with a few questionable decisions like shrinking from six to four quick item slots.

Imagine hiring an ally, equipping them with gear, and teaching them powerful spells. You have the flexibility to open their spellbook and learn spells as needed! This feature allows you to customize your allies' abilities to perfectly complement your strategy in the dungeons.
One of the biggest steps we took to ensure we were staying true to the heart of the series was bringing an alpha demo to PAX West 2024. While a chunk of our booth visitors were brand new to Fate, many others were familiar with it and had even grown up playing the game.
Strange to think that the original game was built with old 4:3 CRT monitors in mind, but it’s a good reminder how much things have changed (and how much has stayed the same) over the past twenty years. Mostly it just makes me feel old.
Only time and obsessive clicking will tell whether the changes are for the better, but none seem especially dramatic. This is a remaster, rather than a remake or overhaul.
While PAX West gave us a nice broad mix of players both new and old, we knew FATE Reawakened we needed to please hardcore fans if we had any chance of getting this remaster to land properly. To tap into that audience, we ended up doing a closed beta with a select group of very active and engaged fans across Fate’s community.
